Hump day ramblings

One of the highlights of the APP convention for me was finally getting to meet Emilio Gonzalez in person for the first time. Now, I've jokingly said that Emilo is either at the top of my “dead pool” for first modification artist to kill a client, or literally the guy that will escalate this industry to the next stage in its evolution. I got to see some of his work including some really wild ear pointing on his partner (photo by Efrain) that certainly pushes the boundaries of that modification. Check it out:

Truly elf-like (and that's some of the lighter work he's done on her)… I was very impressed with what I saw all-around, and I hope to meet up with Emilio in Venezuela in July when I'm down there for Transvision and maybe even talk about hosting ModCon V in South America. I've really been inspired over the last three years over the work I've been seeing coming out of that continent.

Let's see… how about some photos from BME's ongoing “misuse of power tools” series:

One of the people that's featured in my new book was doing chest play piercing analogous to this (straight in with long pins) and actually went between his ribs, and nearly skewered his own heart — he recounts looking down at the needle and watching it shake with every heartbeat. So be careful!

Other than that, some people have been rubbed the wrong way I guess by some of the articles that Fakir Musafar has written for BME because of its negative attitude toward “pop culture suspension” (my term, not his)… I thought this photo would truly make him roll over in his grave (no offense at all intended to the artist in the photo):

Two people taking photos, one with a bowl of popcorn, a highly “unritualistic” environment, and what would be considered by some to be showboating. That said, let me emphasize: I'm 100% cool with every reason out there for suspension. If someone is open to being blasted through the doors of perception, in my opinion it will happen whether they asked for it or not — some of my most “spirituall intense” moments have birthed from pathetic drunken party stunts.

If God wants to talk to you, God will talk to you.

He's omnipotent and omnipresent, you know.

Product Placement

I got this “behind the scenes” photo of a tattoo being done done at Ink Addiction in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The filming is for the MTV show True Life (this episode will air some time in September). Now, what I'm actually wondering about is the prominent HUSTLER banner that looks a little out of place (not that tattoo artists don't enjoy porn).

While I guess it's possible that it always hangs there (write me if you know for sure), I also can't see MTV not saying “that's gonna have to come down” since it's going to really clearly promote HUSTLER (or maybe they'll just pixellate it in post-production). Anyway, my question is this: does HUSTLER have a product placement relationship with MTV, and if so, isn't it a little odd advertising hard core porn on “youth-oriented” television (not that many people don't see MTV as the border of soft core)?

UPDATE
Well, I wish I could say my conspiracy lust was true in this case, but I guess it's always there. Here's the first two messages I got on the subject:

The hustler banner is always there. There is a huge hustler store in the area. Many people that get tattoos there work in the store.

***

A large Hustler store recently opened up in the city and many people display Hustler logos on their cars and personal property. A great deal of the staff at this particular Hustler is also tattooed. Perhaps one of the employees at Ink Addiction is a parttime employee. Who knows?

BME Update Posted

.

I just finished posting another update to the site; a nice mix of stuff in various sections. Enjoy, and thank you to everyone who helped. I've kept the cover image for the APP article up, so the neat tongue piercing is actually the extreme cover.

So I've been thinking about what would have happened if instead of the grenade malfunctioned stories being in the press, we were instead being greeted by tabloids screaming:

PRESIDENT BUSH
ASSASSINATED IN GEORGIA!

Seriously, what would happen if that scenario played out? Because it seems to have come very close to having actually done so. Now, a grenade at a hundred feet is not that likely to be fatal unless some unlucky piece of shrapnel clips him in the skull. Personally I think it's far more likely that some far-right libertarian in the United States blows the President's brains out with a Barrett .50cal from a half mile away (and that's certainly easier and more likely to be met with success than getting a grenade within throwing distance anyway).

It's really hard to predict where America would go if the Fuhrer was assassinated. Would it sink deeper into religiosity and isolation, or would it somehow “snap out of it” and step back into the light? Speaking of prediction (via kottke), I enjoyed A Condensed History Of Everything (mirror), although it gets kind of pessimistic near the end as it moves from recollection to prophecy!

2010s: Amid a vast wasteland of abandoned factories and burning cities falling into total anarchy, the government of the United States willingly hands its responsibilities over to the military, which swiftly installs a new Constitution enshrining the sanctity of land owner rights. The elite of this New Perfect America shelters itself in fortified, self-sufficient city-states, regulated by a council of military and religious elders. Much of the nation's infrastructure collapses. The cities are left to rot, as libertarian cadres, anarcho-syndicalists, survivalists, armed religious cults and race-identity supremists fight over the table scraps.

2020s: Suicide cults pop up all over the planet, as tens of millions choose to die rather than spend any more time in Hell, which they believe is seeping up to the surface of the Earth. India and Pakistan basically annihilate each other in the world's first total nuclear war. The Arab world decides it's now or never, and launch an all-out, full-scale attack on Isreal. The damage done is crippling, but Israel's nuclear retaliation is decisive. All the land between the Mediteranean and the Persian Gulf is turned into radioactive rubble.

2030s: Piracy runs rampant on the oceans, which are basically abandoned to the Neo-Nomads. The African Genocide comes to an end, as New Perfect America moves in and begins leeching the continent of its abundant resources. Europe is shocked by a series of sabotage attacks on their space program, including the destruction of a dark matter reactor that kills millions in what used to be France. New Perfect America is suspected, but nobody is willing to accuse.

That said, with the upcoming space war being approved by Bush in the coming weeks, it's understandable that an aging hippy would have reservations about the future. Last month the US launched the XSS-11, the latest in a series of early anti-satellite systems (according to the CDI) designed to take out the communications and surveillance systems of other nations. You can bet that Russia and China have similar systems.

That said, before you get too scared of Rods from God, read this level headed PDF (the Federation of American Scientists has a good section on Weapons in Space on their website). The general conclusion that I've gotten from my reading on the subject is that space weapons should be the least of our worries right now — although ASAT weapons though could certainly disrupt us more than you could probably imagine (we really rely heavily on satellites at this point), but in terms of fire raining from the skies, it's probably not going to happen any time soon.

PS. My ego loves me getting quoted on boingboing!

BME update posted

.

As predicted in yesterday's magic ball, I've just posted a bit over a thousand new pictures to the members sections (and there'll be more tomorrow as well). Thanks to everyone who helped out, and to Danny Yerna for the cover photo. Danny is both the only current Mexican APP shop and the publisher of TatuARTE en la piel, a Mexican tattoo and modification magazine.

Other than that (echoing Netzapper's post), I really want to urge people to read over The Thirty Years War, put out by the Southern Poverty Law Center as part of their “Holy War” intelligence report on thirty years of hate-organizing by psychopathic evil “Christians“.

Read the timeline and really understand that modern American Christianity is a full-on hate movement that will destroy anything that opposes it if it is not stopped. Lets take a look at a few quotes from prominent Christian leaders and groups:

"Homosexuals are dangerous. They proselytize. They come to the door, and if your son answers and there is nobody there to stop it, they grab the son and run off with him. They steal him. They take him away and turn him into a homosexual."
- Lou Sheldon, Traditional Values Coalition, 1992

"I've never seen a man in my life I wanted to marry. And I'm gonna be blunt and plain: if one ever looks at me like that, I'm gonna kill him and tell God he died."

- Rev. Jimmy Swaggart, 2004

"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."

- Rev. Pat Robertson, 1992

"One of the primary goals of the homosexual rights movement is to abolish all age of consent laws and to eventually recognize pedophiles as the 'prophets' of a new sexual order."

- Family Research Council, 1999

"Homosexuality is [a sin]....You should try to show them a way to deal with that problem, just like alcohol... or sex addiction... or kleptomaniacs."

- Senate Republican Leader Trent Lott, 1998

"Unless we get medically lucky [in finding a cure for AIDS], in three or four years, one of the options discussed will be the extermination of homosexuals."

- Dr. Paul Cameron, Family Research Council

"God hates homosexuality."

- Rev. Jerry Falwell

"Satan uses homosexuals as pawns. They're in, as you know, key positions in the media, they're in the White House, they're in everything, they're in Hollywood now. Then, unfortunately, after he uses them, he infects them with AIDS and then they die."

- Anthony Falzarano, PFOX, 1996

"[Homosexuals] want to come into churches and disrupt church services and throw blood all around and try to give people AIDS and spit in the face of ministers."

- Rev. Pat Robertson

"The State carries the power of the sword, that is, the power to prohibit [homosexual] conduct with physical penalties, such as confinement and even execution."

- Supreme Court Judge Roy Moore, 2002

Now, people tell me “oh, but not all Christians are like that”, and I'm sure that's true, but the fact is that as long as non-hate-filled Christians are willing to tolerate their leadership doing this (and voting for them and their evil resolutions — these people keep getting support from mainstream voters; we're not talking “lunatic fringe” here), and keep turning a blind eye saying things like “Christians need to get along and respect each others views” — supporting it — they are a part of the problem. If God exists, I predict that there are very few Christians in heaven, but it is instead overflowing with decent love-filled atheists.

Until Christians start standing up for the teachings of Christ and denounce these hatemongers, it is a failed movement as far as I'm concerned.
