On account of it pre-empting Survivor, one of the few brain-dead shows I watch every week, I got to watch the moronic Bush “let's get ready to rumble” press conference. I can't believe the US people bought that junk. I mean, he didn't even answer a single person's question — he just responded with a pile of doublethink that even the most uninformed person should have seen through.
The reporters all were very clear in their questions; things like “why are you turning the entire world against us”, “why isn't North Korea an issue” (since Bush is considering surrendering there — after all, Kim's threat to “vaporize Los Angeles” is just a “regional issue” according to Bush), “why don't you take Canada's sane advice”, “if you believe in democracy, why don't you listen to the American people”, “is this just some personal obsession with you”, “how can you use Saddam's violation of the UN as a reason when you're not willing to listen to the UN”, “is this going to be another Vietnam“, “isn't this going to cause more terrorism” and, of course, “what about the economy?”
I wanted someone to ask “Will you be asking Congress for approval to launch this war? You just said you wanted to defend the Constitution, didn't you?”, but while the reporters did seem to have balls, they simply were not that large, nor were they made of brass.
Bush answered nearly every question with a bunch of misdirection, lies, fearmongering, and false patriotism, mostly centred around “Don't you remember what Saddam did to us on September 11th? We can't afford to have that happen again, and I will defend liberty, the liberty and freedom that we plan on giving to the Iraqi people.”
I understand that Americans on the whole are freakishly naive about what's going on in the world, but I can't believe they'd not see through these lies. The fact that he wouldn't even answer the questions, and that his answers often made no sense whatsoever should be clear enough. Anyway, I'd like to start with some telling quotes, both from the NAE conference and from last night, as well as an older quote.
Government cannot put hope in people's hearts or a sense of purpose in people's lives. That [only] happens when someone puts an arm around a neighbor and says, 'God loves you, I love you, and you can count on us both.'
- George W Bush
To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us, and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day Arab hero.
- George Bush Sr.
We captured the mastermind of the September 11th attacks against our nation.
- George W Bush
WHAT? You got Osama?
Osama Yo Mama! The war on terror is won!
Oh wait, no, you just caught Khalid Mohammed… Who until two weeks ago was listed as a nobody. Suddenly he's caught and he's “upgraded” to the guy who masterminded 9/11??? What a load of crap. There's no way (I hope) the American people are buying these lies. Let's continue with the press conference (the remainder of the quotes are all from the monkey god).
Iraq's dictator has made a public show of producing and destroying a few missiles -- missiles that violate the restrictions set out more than 10 years ago.
Uh, no. Those missiles don't have the range to violate the restrictions. Iraq is allowed to have those. They're destroying them because they are trying to bend over backwards to avoid war.
Saddam Hussein possesses weapons of terror. He provides funding and training and safe haven to terrorists -- terrorists who would willingly use weapons of mass destruction against America and other peace-loving countries. Saddam Hussein and his weapons are a direct threat to this country, to our people, and to all free people.
The attacks of September the 11th, 2001 showed what the enemies of America did with four airplanes. We will not wait to see what terrorists or terrorist states could do with weapons of mass destruction.
A claim which is disputed by pretty much every nation on the planet… There's no links between Saddam and al Qaeda (and even Israel has said that), and Saddam poses zero threat to the American people. None of the surrounding nations have asked for US intervention. Saddam's invasion of Kuwait was done with US approval, and Saddam's gassing of the Kurds was done not only with US approval, but with US supplied weaponry.
Does Bush think he can really scare the US people into doing whatever he demands?
He has weapons of mass destruction, and he has used weapons of mass destruction, in his neighborhood and on his own people. He's invaded countries in his neighborhood. He tortures his own people.
Again:
- The only “weapon of mass destruction” he's used was given to him by the US, and used with US approval (the gassing of the Kurds).
- The invasion of Kuwait was checked with the US first, and was given approval by the US.
- Torture? This coming from the nation that has admitted to torturing people to death in Afghanistan?
Someone please tell me that the average American understands these issues. I can't believe that people would willingly blind themselves like this, and simply shrug off the repeated re-writing of history!
One of the things we love in America is freedom. Liberty is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift. Iraq will provide a place where people can see that the Shia and the Sunni and the Kurds can get along in a federation. And replacing this cancer inside of Iraq will be a government that represents the rights of all the people.
Yeah, I'm sure that the Kurds, who've sworn to pretty much kill everybody except themselves will get along real peacefully, American Style… Once they've had a chance to read the Bible. I think pretty much every Bush speech could be subtitled “I REPRESENT GOD, YOU FUCK.“
The American people know that Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction.
Why, because they're stupid and uninformed? I think Americans know perfectly well that Iraq doesn't have these weapons. And when this war happens, and Saddam doesn't use them, Americans will know conclusively that he doesn't have them… After all, if he has them, and America invades, he will use them, right?
Unless they fall for the charade of “lucky we found his secret weapons before he got to use them” after the US pulls a secret lab out of from under the pile of burned Iraqi bodies.
Remember, the only free Iraqi is a dead Iraqi!
He tried to back it all up with his “Colin Powell, in an eloquent address to the United Nations, described some of the information we were at liberty of talking about” statements… Um… Didn't pretty much his entire case get debunked and shown to be just a pile of flim-flam?
We live in a dangerous world. We live in new circumstances in our country. And I hope people remember the tragedy of September the 11th, but I hope they understand the lesson of September the 11th.
I really think this is despicable. Every twisted action he wants to do he says “remember 911″… The September 11th attacks will be recorded in the long-term history as the moment that America died. Not because of any victory by foreign agents, but because it allowed hostile unamerican forces to seize control of the nation for long enough to subvert it… America was already struggling to hold on to true democracy, but on September 11th, 2001, it lost it entirely.
It's hard to envision more terror on America than September 11th, 2001. We did nothing to provoke that terrorist attack. It came upon us because there's an enemy which hates America. They hate what we stand for. We love freedom and we're not changing. And, therefore, so long as there's a terrorist network like al-Qaida, and others willing to fund them, finance them, equip them -- we're at war.
Yeah, “they hate us for our freedom”. I think only the dumbest of the dumb still believe that line. I don't even know why I bother quoting this crap, I might as well just reprint the Emperor Wears No Clothes, because that's what this circus is coming to.
So to simplify, Saddam is Satan, and Bush is the direct representative of God. Hell, let's make him God. America is totally innocent, and has never done anything to antagonize the rest of the world. Saddam (not Osama, who's name was never mentioned) caused 9/11 to happen purely because of his deep hatred for all things good.
I really hope Americans aren't this stupid.
Because there's two alternatives:
- The American people really are dumb enough to fall for this crap.
- The American people are not free, and are living in a dictatorship where they have no say over the action of their government. In which case Bush's speech is just propagandist shouting. He might as well be saying “I can do whatever the hell I like, so fuck you democracy!”
PS. Gas prices are at a record high. Better invade soon, SUV lovers.
