I'm working on getting the update posted, but first everyone should be aware of the following story:

Tattooer pleads guilty to misdemeanor
TULSA, Okla. (AP) A man has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of giving a person a tattoo.

Most states permit tattoos, but its illegal in Oklahoma, leading some people to go to underground tattoo parlors.

Dennis Lloyd Tucker, 34, pleaded guilty to unlawful tattooing and to making an unlawful offer to tattoo.

The deferred sentence granted by Tulsa County Special Judge Michael Zacharias means Tucker can have the case dismissed with no conviction marking his record if he completes a two-year probation.

Tucker must pay $1,000 to the victims compensation fund plus $199 in court costs. He was arrested Aug. 31 after undercover police went to his residence. He was subsequently freed under the countys pretrial release program.

Police confiscated tattooing equipment, including needles and a needle sterilization machine. Tucker said he had about $30,000 invested in the equipment.

Defense attorney Kim Collier said Tucker wanted to get the case over with in order to get back the seized equipment and move to a state where tattooing is perfectly legal.

"This is a valid business and a respected art form everywhere else," Tucker said.

I got tattooed today. Nothing too exciting, just mostly beefing up the linework and touching up some older pieces:

I also got some stuff back from the framing shop. As with almost every print I own they're by Jim Woodring. The little one on the left is an original watercolor, and the stunning massive canvas print on the right is a birthday present from the future mother of my children.

I also got some very nifty presents from Clive and Jenny (go to her forum, she needs get well messages!)… Two beer shirts, some gliders, and a beer store gift certificate!

Finally, I got a great package from KrYpTyK today — it's two dual PII computers! I just have to find a case and powersupply and then we'll have a couple of machines, maybe for church or server use! Oh, and I took the TT offroading.

Weird…

Check out this email I just got. I don't know if it's some kooky new kind of spam or if it's really directed at me. In either case it's rather strange!


To Whom It May Concern:

It has come to our attention that your site is advertising and providing a link to ****** for a free sample from Tampax. We kindly request that you remove this link promptly and, in the future, please ask for our permission to feature a link to our site for a free sample.

Our concern is that your site attracts consumers that are not in our target market for this particular sample. This prevents us from achieving the objectives of our sampling initiative and means that we are ineffectively using our marketing dollars.

Indeed the law in this area indicates that this practice of so-called "deep linking" to a website without the website owner's consent is an infringement of the website owner's IP rights and causes economic damage. The email came from turner.lb@pg.com. I can only assume it's a reference to someone's IAM page, because I'm not really much for linking to tampon sites. But, if you're the tampon lover that caused this email, feel free to contact Michelle I guess.

BURST

First of all, I just got my copies of BURST magazine in the mail this morning (Phil, I have a copy here for you too). As always, they've done a great job with their ModCon report, for the third time in a row:

Anyway, I'm starting to get very sick of the media. It's almost impossible to stay informed when everyone is lying. I hear one story from the mainstream press. Then I hear an opposing story from the indie press. Then I hear another opposing story from the foreign press in Islamic countries. I have no idea what to believe. First they fucked up the names of the terrorists and accused a whole slew of innocent (and living) people. Then they translated Bin Laden's speech wrong… Although from the article I just linked, it seems apparent that the language is so culturally and theologically rich that as a Westerner I can never really understand what he's saying. I can get the gist of it, but only on a very shallow level. I do know that this war has something to do with gas… And as a citizen in the country with the world's largest reserves of oil, that's worrying!

Oh, and for some reason they seem to be renaming the PATRIOT act the USA act. Do they really think that simplistic patriotic naming will make people more willing to throw away their rights? “Oh, you say this isn't a guillotine? It's called an American Pride? Sure I'll stick my head in it!”

Everyone has their theory as to why this happened, what event acted as a trigger (as if there's even a single event)… One I found interesting was the statement that it began with Warren G. Harding (the 1920 Treaty of Svres, which ended the Ottoman empire). It's also been suggested that it's in part the Russian's fault, because the CIA got lazy and bureaucratic after the breakup of the USSR and wasn't able to effectively watch out for the US's interests. This CIA agent also blames the CIA.

It's looking like this isn't just the start of a war against the Taliban… It's an all out war against the entire middle east perhaps. Let's hope it doesn't get even more screwed up.

Well this sucks… The bombing raids have statistically killed more UN relief workers than Taliban. What sucks just as bad is the food and leaflets they're dropping… Because they're being dropped from relatively vulnerable C-17 cargo planes, they're being dropped from very high, scattering them where they don't even get to the people who need them. Worse than that, they're being dropped into live minefields.

I realized that outside of kooky movie and media quotes, I almost never use quotes… Of course, maybe I have too much to say myself most of the time and that's why. But if you remember a previous squabble over territory that ended up changing the world:

I think everyone has heard the “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” quote… George Orwell as well as many others said “war is evil, but it is often the lesser evil.” I really feel that in times like this one has to remember that… I'm not at all saying one should support war, and in fact, I do not. However, what I do have a big problem with is people who object to war and then offer no reasonable alternative.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest thing. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares about more than his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Honestly, if you don't feel we should be at war, if you feel that the US brought it on themselves — and yes, there is a very strong case for that — you need to present an alternative. Obviously there's a problem here, and a very big problem. War is one solution. If you don't want war, think for a while what the other solutions are…

On a more positive note, I'm picking up the modded anime porn for the shirts later today and will post some scans the evening.
