Thick!

So I've been fiddling with the real layout a little, and I'm already up to 384 pages, and I have hundreds more images to add plus lots of text. This is going to be a thick little book!

If you were wondering…

I also take a lot of car design inspiration from the Adams brothers Probe series of ultra-low sports cars, as well as the streamliners of the 1930s. Please excuse the crude scribbles — this is the first time I've used a tablet to draw in probably five years. Anyway, I'm off now to grab a CD of images taken by Phil at PluR's party.

Hmmm… Citizen_SKA just let me know that I've knocked off the Chrysler Atlantic concept car.

Interesting

Interesting/scary law being applied in the US lately. Basically what the law says is that if you have ever given money to a terrorist group, or have ever received training from a terrorist group, you fall under its arrest jurisdiction. So… Let's say for whatever reason you become involved with Islam and donate some money to what you think is a religious aid group, but then turns out to be a terrorist group. You regret it of course, but — boom — now you're a terrorist forever. Or let's say you get involved with the militia and do some training with them. Even if you leave and do other things with your life, you can be indefinitely arrested for the actions of the group you've left.

I think everyone knows what's going on with Iraq (basically, the US says “you must let inspectors in”, then Iraq says “ok, they can come in right now, with no conditions”, and then the US says, “well that's not good enough!” and gets UN approval to invade). My only worry is that China will choose the Gulf War II as when it takes back Taiwan, since that's when the US will be far too overextended to do anything about it.

Anyway, I'm sure many people already saw this as it got slashdotted, but the US is talking about eliminating governmental independent scientific review committees. That is, all decisions about both the quality of a study, as well as funding decisions for public scientific research will be decided by politicians rather than scientists. Which means you can expect to see research that benefits big business, but does nothing for the little guy…

Anyway, I'm going to go whip through some experiences now I think, and then work on a car design I'm submitting to Peugeot. I'm putting together a retro streamliner design roughly inspired by the 1937 402 Darlmat. The due date is the 28th, so my time is getting tight.

Tower lowering

Through some miracle we managed to lower the tower without incident even though it was well into nighttime. The biggest thanks of course go to the rigging brains of iWasCured, wild zero, with many thanks to PhilipBarbosa, Rookie, jenc0, and enthalpy for backing up his mastery with brute force. After all the work was done, we also saw the arrival and brief stay of BMEshop's resident woodworker Organic Shaun as well as (I think) fritz_glitz. Subsequently martini arrived and we had a screening of the BBQ and ModCon DVDs.

PS. Goddamn do I miss Rachel. She's already moved out to Tweed and I don't get to see her until Wednesday…

Grossest photo ever

I have to say that this photo may get the “grossest photo ever submitted” award. Thanks perk900.
