I’ve been thinking about different ways to add a turret to the top of my truck. I thought one of the easiest ways might be to weld or otherwise attach the top of a barrel to the roof, which would provide both the walls of the turret and would have a nice waterproof screw off top. I think tonight I’ll go poke around home depot and see what fun stuff I can find. Caitlin says I’m just going to end up with a leaky roof but I think my vision for the truck has paid off so far and I have faith in my customization ideas!
Here’s a couple of trucks I’ve found online with a similar vibe (sources: 1, 2, 3/4):

Ha – I bet the police are going to have fun, seeing you driving around in that!
Unfortunately in Canada I can’t even mount a replica gun. Best I can do is a Nerf gun. (Not sure if those are even legal in the UK ;))
Keep in mind that contrary to all the vehicles you pictured with turrets added to them which are body-on-frame constructions, whereas your Jeep is a unibody, and the roof is an integral part of it. Cutting it up would result in great loss of strength – bad idea…
You can actually buy a turret, cannon and all kinds of military hardware from the DND auctions. They usually weld the barrel or some how de commission the gun but it still as real looking as it get’s for cheap. My neighbour actually has an APC tank he drives around all the time. I’ll take some pictures of it and send them to you.
Bastian; I know, my intent is to frame it. It may end up being *stronger*. Or at least equal.
Lane; Please do!!!
Not sure how to imbed an image on here ?
But try the site link for a possible outcome. 8)
I second Don’s sentiment on this one.
I like the giant mouse trap in the second picture.
