Adding to my blister collection

I may have a couple of very large and ready-to-fester blisters on my hands, but my little speedboat is starting to look more like, well, a boat! My woodworking precision leave a lot to be desired, but it’s certainly coming together. I’ll finish the assembly in the morning, because tonight I’m going to take this rare free evening to go out and see Star Trek with Caitlin.

It’s optional, but I am going to, yes. Not that this is a safe vehicle, but at least it will be unsinkable.

You’ll really enjoy Star Trek. It’s fantastic. If you can get to see it on IMAX it’s even better!

I had fun at the movie, and really enjoyed the sets/scene painting and it was nice to go out with Caitlin since we rarely get to go on dates, but as a hardcore trekkie I didn’t like some of the liberties that were taken — and I didn’t like at all that this whole “new” star trek is a completely distinct timeline with major differences from all other star trek series/movies.

How difficult is it to bed the plywood to shape over the forms? It doesn’t seem to be that big a bend, but do you have to wet down or steam the wood first to form it?

Not difficult — no steaming/wetting needed.

    Looking good.
I’m thinking about building one with my brother. We often build experimental (and not always successful) contraptions, so I think this would be a great project.

    heya Shannon,
that boat looks way cool, i hope you take it easy on the speed tho!
i gotta say i LOVED the new StarTrek! i grew up with the original show from episdoe 1, ans i may not be an uber-trekkie but im surely a fan. i hate it when new shows/movies screw up the old plots, histories or timelines. Thing is, i think this new one is perfect… and infallible!

    and ill tell you why:
    alternate reality baby!
its the perfect device, any trekkie that bashes this movie is just being stupid, IMO. i hope this new series of movies goes on and on!

It’s true, it is “infallible”, but it’s also sort of a “cheat” I think…

you may be right about that…
but its the kind of cheat that Kirk would use, and Scotty would be proud. hehe

also, i think they put in enough effort to make it a good cheat. its not just a throw-in to rationalize weak writing.(IMO)

Wow Shannon, that's really annoying! What is it, 1997 on Geocities? Retroweb is NOT cool!
