The good old days

I was reading a book of classic games and toys for kids.

This one, “Frog Trouncing”, stood out.

frog-trouncing

Nefarious comes back today after a brief visit with her mother… maybe we’ll go looking for frogs tomorrow. I think it’s still too early in the year though, so we’ll have to capture a squirrel. However, I think Nefarious will be very excited to see what Caitlin has gotten herself though and that will win out over animal cruelty.

Not as good as “Whack the rat.”
Set a small piece of drainpipe up like a slide. Child stands at the bottom with a mallet. The rat (usually dead) is dropped down the drainpipe and the child has to hit it with the mallet. The dropper conseals when they have let go of the rat by putting their eitire hand in the drainpipe before letting go.
Good clean fun. We used to play it with a beanbag instead. Less guts being smashed about the place I suppose…

This could be more fun with humans and construction site materials. Results might resemble something from Laurel and Hardy.

Man, you have a freak out about the word Kraut, but you advocate harming our small amphibian friends. For shame, Shannon, for shame. :)

i think i have as much interest in beating on anyone as much as Shannon has in harming defenseless animals.

Disclaimer: no longhairs have been harmed in the process of this posting.

This is fantastic. I was laughing all day about it. Who the hell puts this is a book and thinks: “Why kids fucking up animals is always a healthy fun idea”.

Here in North Queensland we just had our first annual “Toad Day Out” which I swear is actually modeled on Whacking Day from The Simpsons (where they whack all the snakes with clubs). Cane toads being the pest that they are, it’s a good thing. There was an uproar about encouraging people to be cruel to the toads so they changed the rules and now all the toads have to be turned in alive and in good shape so they can be euthanized with CO2. It struck me as odd because running over cane toads with your truck is almost a sport as is doing all sorts of other cruel things to them.

Probably a Epipedobates tricolor.. They produce a analgesic chemical 200 times as potent as morphine!
