Yes, another day of sledding. We went with a friend of hers who I think has never been sledding before (she moved here from Zimbabwe) and they had tons of fun (and since we used the smaller hill, it was less work for me). They especially liked riding my giant inflatable sled and having me twirl it for a crazy spinning-teacup ride down the slope.
For supper I grilled a whole bunch of baby red, orange, and yellow peppers, along with some cherry tomatoes and green onion in garlic couscous… I served this alongside sole fried in a lime and pomegranate sauce. Quite delicious! Today was one of the few weeknights that Caitlin doesn’t work late so I had the pleasure of cooking for her as well. I really want to get started on my cooking blog. Maybe that will be one of my missions for this weekend.
Speaking of blogs (and those of you who are friends of mine on Bodymod.org — I’m “zentastic” there — already know this), I’m starting a new blog on chronic pain and all things pain… It’s got a great name that I’m glad wasn’t taken… Blog of Pain! One of the first things I want to write about there is self-cutting and other self-induced pain as a means of “treating” not emotional pain, but physical pain. That is, creating a manageable artificial pain to “distract” from an unmanageable chronic pain.

i have lived with chronic back pain for a very long time. its pretty awful, but i’ve learned to do lots of things to distract myself both with self inflicted pain as well as many other things.
probably the hardest part of living with chronic pain is seeing how it drove a wedge between me and my now estranged husband. he got that i was in pain but couldn’t get past the massive impact it had on his life.
i could go on and on. think i’ll wait for your blog though :)
The blog looks interesting! How is that bodymod.org site? I miss you on IAM, I think its kind of silly you can’t be involved with your own creation, regardless of the current ownership.
It’s been an interesting experience not only being not welcome on IAM/BME, but actually having it be a regular situation to be slagged, mocked, and spoken ill of on the site by both staff and members — including many people who had spent a decade professing to be friends… It really shows you how incredibly fickle and transient relationships are. Surreal on one hand, and a real bare-knuckle dose of reality on the other.
on an unrelated note, I’ve made almost that exact same Cous Cous dish before, but with mini-shrimp in it too. it was delicious.
People can be asshats and if you have one true friend, you are a fortunate person, much less more than one. On self inflicting pain for distraction, I remember doing things like that when I’d get migrains as a child. No cutting though. Light fingertip, fingernail tickling also confuses the brain.
I’m really looking forward to your new blog Shannon. I didn’t really realize it until you said it, but I’ve found great relief from my chronic pain (well, before having my ankle fused) by having tattoo work done and going through the healing process. I found that the distraction of the pleasurable discomfort that comes from using my T.E.N.S. unit helps a lot too. Strangely enough, the electrical stimulation has helped me reach meditative states when my pain kept me from getting there.
Blog of Pain! That’s epic.
I work with a lot of people experiencing chronic pain myself so it’s something I like to read up on.
I can’t wait for your cooking blog to get started… it’s already in my blog-roll.
:) have a good day Shannon.
im sorry you have been betrayed but past “friends”, ive been thorugh plenty of that myself. Humans are garbage, we cant be trusted. We have failed to evolve beyond animals in regards to how we treat each other. Hell, some animals treat each other better then we do!
Anyways, im psyched to check out your new blog(s). is bodymod.org one of yours?. i was also wondering recently if you are still maintaining the ‘undermars’ blog, or is it just way on the back burner for you?
Also, i had an interesting idea for a blog in a dream last night. i think it was inspired by you…
photos and other evidence of bringing contraband on board US planes! obviously all the paranoia drummed up in the name of homeland security id just BS. i think it would be great to show folks how things are easily slipping thru the cracks despite throwing away some of our freedoms.
let me know, ive got a few good ones from traveling so much this year. i cant believe what soem of my friends have gotten away with!
undermars is totally back burner…
bodymod.org is not my site and i’ve got no involvement in it other than being a member.
photos of contraband on planes is a hilarious blog idea… if a little dangerous! but I like the political point it makes.
