I think this clip is my favorite “duck” that we’ve posted in a little while. It’s so cute… I was going through the images I have for the site (including some unpublished ones), and thinking about putting together a fun little coffee table book or maybe a 2009 calendar or something funny.
Speaking of ducks, Nefarious and I were at the park today walking along the duck pond and an old lady chastised me for allowing her to walk along the stone wall, which is about 12″ off the ground and a solid 24″ wide. As if a five year old can’t walk on a two-foot wide path without toppling off… sheesh! At first I didn’t even understand what she was talking about because it was so silly.

i can’t stand it when strangers feel the need to comment on other peoples children – when they are doing something that is totally harmless.
I don’t know. I think I would rather have people watching out for one another. Perhaps this lady had some personal experience or knowledge that caused her to comment. I know that I have dealt with some parents who are so protective of their kids that the kids lack basic self-preservation skills. In any case, my reaction to the lady would be about the same as Shannon’s.
in some circumstances this is perfectly acceptable behavior, but really she could fall one foot, maybe scrape her knee or something equal to this. Shannon was right there watching, she wasn’t jumping from a roof onto a small trampoline, this is harmless.
why waste the time and criticize someone for this?
maybe that’s just my opinion.
Kinda off subject here…but what do you think of BME’s new legal trouble now that your gone?
Jeremiah, I can’t really comment on that, but BME has used the expression “BME” to refer to itself since I founded it in 1994 and it’s completely silly for anyone to suggest otherwise.
I’d buy a weekly “Looks like a duck” calendar for 2009.
I could be way off, but I have noticed that some people (older women in particular) will give “helpfull advice” to a father out with the kid(s). My husband has mentioned this. No one has ever said a word to me.
