I ordered some on-demand self-published books from lulu recently, both for my Sterling project and because I wanted to check out the quality… The quality of the hardbound books is pretty nice on the whole, so I’m quite seriously considering putting out an expanded and full-colour hardback version of the old ModCon book with lots of new interviews. If there’s an interest in it I could certainly have something very nice out long in advance of Christmas. I suppose I’d just have to make sure that it doesn’t violate their TOS due to the content — I imagine it would be a judgment call on their part because it’s really dependent on how you define the content.
Time to reinstall some desktop publishing software perhaps…
Edit/Update 1: Found this review of Lulu’s quality with some better pictures.
Edit/Update 2: Work has started!

I’ll have to buy 2…moving has damaged my books more than anything else…ugh
Count me in as a potential buyer.
I’ve waited so long to hear this! I would DEFINITELY buy one!
I would most certainly be interested.
I would buy at least one.
yar i would buy one instantly. i never got a copy of the first one
id buy one instantly!!!
no doubt about it
I missed the first round, I’d definitly buy one!
Chalk me up with the rest – I think loads of people would be very excited about it.
My paperback copy is showing wear. I’d certainly order at least one copy; probably two – I’d like to get one into the university library.
Did you know that there’s a copy at Macquarie University library that is so restricted that even the Director of the Cultural Studies department is not allowed to view it without signing a waiver and reading it under the supervision of the head librarian. It’s the most dangerous book they own, apparently.
ill take a sqajillion please.
Well, I will have to get to work then! It would be a complete re-do of the book, with most of the old content (but much of it in color now), as well as plenty of new material.
You have to re publish it! A hard back copy would be even better than a battered old paper back which most would be willing to buy! DO IT,DO IT!
Yes yes YES!!! I’ve been dying to have my very own copy. I’d get one for sure.
I’d buy one, too; esp. if it’s gonna be ‘a complete re-do’;
I’d put it right next to my copy of the ‘old’ ModCon ;)
I’ve always wanted to own a copy. Looking forward to it.
I would certainly buy one! I’ve been wanting one for some time now..
OH, HELL YES!!!
Wow, the quality looks pretty good. I didn’t know something like that existed. Neat.
Count me in!
Hey. I’m looking to make a book myself with Lulu. What desktop publishing software did/do you use? Did you find it easy to do?
Ooh, please do this!
A third ModCon book would be very, very welcome on my shelf.
I’d love to get a copy of the ModCon book for my boyfriend, he’s in it and doesn’t even have one of the old copies.
Rusty – I use Quark. You could use anything though — Open Office, Word, Scribus, etc…
Would you send some to Eurpe? :D
