Grrrrr!

Nefarious’s two favorite things right now — face paint and swimming — are somewhat incompatible. She gets up early every morning and paints her face in different ways before breakfast (she’s been saying she wants to do makeup for movies when she grows up — not that anyone decides at five), and then cleans it off before lunch so we can swim. The new place I moved into has a number of pools in the complex of buildings it’s a part of, so we’ve been going every day. She throws my keys into the deep end, and I dive for them, and I throw them into the shallow end and she does the same… lots of fun.

Sometimes I think about launching new major ventures, and I do have a few ready to go, but on the other hand, I really do enjoy the laid-back time I’ve had this summer.

    Shannon,
    RE: your new ventures.

If you can live without doing the new ventures (unless they are ones that will help with making some money) I’d suggest letting them go. Since you haven’t had the massive workload you used to, you have had the opportunity to enjoy life and all it offers – instead of being cooped up behind a monitor. You’ve had the opportunity to enjoy your nifty daughter and your girlfriend. Those times are very precious. If you need to do a venture to make ends meet – then yes, do it to it. But if you don’t need it – absorb all the good times you can now — enjoy the present because we never know what is in the future.

Are you still planning on moving out to Nova Scotia? I keep looking forward to reading about those ventures. Cohen and I have talked a bit about moving to the Kootenays, but sometimes life makes those big changes difficult.

I’m with P7TMS. If you can afford to put things off until the end of the summer, then enjoy the summer. When things get cold, when school has restarted, when the days start to get shorter, that’s the time to jump back into a big project. Summer’s the time to enjoy yourself.

Yep, summer is for fun, agreed all around. And we are still planning a move, but it won’t happen for a while. It’s still nice to have something to look forward to.

You should make sure your keys dont end up in the pool drain, that could be rather annoying. Ive heard of things like that happening. aside from that sounds like a lot of fun. your daughter is lucky you spend so much time with her, many parents I know cant be bothered.

Siobhan – Nova Scotia is still on the menu, but we’re going to let Nefarious finish out her three-year cycle at her school — this year she gets to be one of the big kids.

Disgustipated – Yeah, I really need to get a puck or something safer to dive for!

Until she was about two and a half I didn’t spend enough time; Rachel and I traveled a lot and were generally absorbed with other things. It’s definitely my biggest regrets in life that I largely missed that time… There’s nothing I enjoy more these days than spending time with her (and Caitlin) — it’s a really wonderful experience helping a kid grow up.

Enjoy your summer; thanks to you and BME, I’m going to have a great adventure in just a few days, too :)

Wow Shannon, that's really annoying! What is it, 1997 on Geocities? Retroweb is NOT cool!
