Oooooh!

In doing my regular browsing of vehicles to post on my kit car blog, I came across a Manta Mirage for sale in Canada… I sure miss my old one, and am really seriously considering getting this — it’s really rare to find one for sale in Canada (there are about a dozen in the country I figure, and they can’t be imported). That said, the new Manta Mirages — it looks like they’re going back into production — are being made in Peterborough, Ontario, so that may change soon.

Edit: ACK! The seller has really, really unrealistic expectations about the value of this car unfortunately… Their reserve is $38,000, which is at least double what the car is worth — I’ve seen these selling as low as $10,000 lately. In addition, the car hasn’t been registered since 1991, so there’s also the possibility that getting it on the road is unlikely… So yeah, this one won’t happen!

Why can’t they be imported? Seems there could be some ways around that if you really wanted one.

As I understand it the main reason you can’t import them is you can’t show their age.

While I cannot afford a kit car, I imagine it would be perfect for those making a prototype for an energy efficient car. :)

I looked at the photos before reading your post, and was wondering how someone had made a body kit based off of the Mach 5 from Speed Racer. Seriously… add a fin in the back and make the front pointier… and make it a convertible… but still! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mach_5

  5. Maybe the ugly Harcastle & McCormick body style is to much for canadians or the American Penchant for crappy fuel economy has something to do with it.

Jessa, I definitely do care, but as I’m sure you noticed, my name has been edited out of the history of the site on the BME wiki and they kicked me off and deleted my “glider” IAM page… So I do my best not to think about it since it’s all out of my hands now.
