Well, one time too many times in the sandbox with my poor old camera it seems. The lens is all busted up now and full of sand so it gives an error when it loads, and as you can see from the picture, the lens cover doesn’t open properly either. I say “Sorry Saira” because I was going to lend it to her because she leaves for a one month trip to India in a few days… We didn’t discover the problem until after she left for her house. Hopefully I can clean and repair it.
There was an enormous thunderstorm last night that lasted a couple hours and was one of the most, if not the most electrically active storms I’ve ever seen in Toronto. Nefarious somehow managed to snore through the first hour and a half, but eventually it got her up. She’s not scared of thunder and lightning or anything, but it definitely made it impossible to sleep as I’m sure everyone else in the city can attest to… So we put chairs out by the back window and watched the storm — the apartment building down the street was struck a few times — and talked about why clouds seem to change colors and other late-night talk. And she still had the energy to bike to school in the morning!
Anyway, tomorrow I will post something pretty neat… I have a stop-motion animation project that I look forward to trying out, assuming the weather is good.

Yeah! That thunder storm was crazy. It made its way to Montreal. I work for a non profit sailing organization for para and quadriplegics with adapted boats; we had a couple of boats out on the water when the manager comes running to me and tells me there is a huge storm coming. So we call our two boats back in and barely get them de-rigged in time. I swear to god, with seconds to spare we get everyone out of the boats and take the sails off. HUGE STORM. Biggest i have ever seen, must have been gusting 40 knots.
Since moving from a place with very few rainy days every year to a place who’s weather is described as “Don’t like the weather? Wait five minutes,” we’ve been watching the storms a lot. Thunder and lightening are totally new to my 6 year old and she’s not quite sure what to make of it. I, on the other hand, am quite content to sit and watch the lightening. I’ve seen more lightening in the 10 months we’ve been here than all together in my 26 years before.
I remember as a kid I could stay up all night and still be wide awake the next day, full of energy. I only ever needed 2, maybe 3 hours of sleep.
Now it’s more like 12, maybe 13…
That storm front must have been huge because we had it down here in the Philadelphia area too. I love watching thunderstorms and have not seen that much lightning ever. We had some damage to our house and lost power overnight.
Milwaukee had the most rain it’s had since 1917 or something like that. It was crazy and I was stuck driving in it. We had a couple hydroplaning scares.
Yeah, we had that storm in Massachusetts too… But it didn’t even last a half hour. Very disappointing. :(
