It’s been very hard finding time to paint lately… work, work, work, definitely making me a dull boy. I painted the shell of the turtle today as well as roughing out the pills. You can click the picture to zoom into a bigger shot, and if you’d like to see some textural detail, click here.

Oooh you look evil!
The turtle is turning out amazingly well. I keep picturing him or the snakes with dreads. Gee, I wonder why.
The texture to his frame alongside the shading makes for one helluva shell. Kudos. I really love the look and feel so far.
I’m in hopes that you and Caitlin might be up for some sort of summer day in my backyard with canvases, tripods and music! I sure could use a tutorial on Gel medium. The shit is all yucky to work with and I can never get it presise like you do. Boggles the mind. You must use microscopic brushes.
ps.
Does it bother you at all that with the way light hits the canvas, determines light vs dark?
I have a painting(one of my first, using acrylic and gels) which mood changes throughout the day. It goes from being welcoming and friendly to abrasive and outright dark and gloomy. For some time I thought it was charming then all a sudden I wanted to burn it.
Hm. This one looks much much darker than the first shot. Is it just lack of flash maybe? I know lots of pill heads that would love this painting. :P
I miss you clean shaven!
man, you look positively evil
i bet you put on that face purposely to scare the kids
how do you achieve such equal shading with such a
thick application of paint? it boggles me
BJ – Yes, the flash is off in this photo but it’s on in the previous one.
I agree you look evil – so does the turtle – but I love it!!!
