She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

I was asked how my Russian Doll project is coming. I must admit that it’s coming slowly because it takes me so much effort to paint small (and I’m not really that good at it), and even doing a little one like the one in this entry is about two hours of work… I expect about twenty-five hours in the whole project. Anyway, I am working on it, and here’s the bird!

The picture doesn’t do it justice because it’s painted in iridescent paints and shimmers from tone to tone from different angles.

Update: And the dog too…

Just a side note, you might want to cut them in half before you paint them, the paint might chip if you attempt to cut them after all of the painting is complete. I carved a puppet out of wood once, painted it, then decided that I wanted the hands to have a different shape. The paint chipped when I cut it. Just might save you some time and work to consider.

Amelia – The dolls are already cut of course, I separate them relatively fresh, and acrylic paint doesn’t chip anyway… So it’s been a non-issue with them…

Wow Shannon, that's really annoying! What is it, 1997 on Geocities? Retroweb is NOT cool!
