Quickie

I was prepping a much larger news update for this morning (I'm missing doing them, but it's hard to find the time lately!)… But I've got to quickly zip into town before noon so here is just a quick list of the stories I felt most relevant.

  • Secret Service Questions Students – Careful what you say in school… Direct quote from the agents called to interrogate students critical of Bush: “We own you, you don't have any legal rights.” God bless America.
  • May Day, May Day – Suggesting that the rhetoric, propaganda, and ritual of the current Bush regime is very similar to pre-collapse Soviet ritual.
  • Taliban appears to be regrouped and well-funded – One of many, many stories talking about how Afghanistan is still far from over.
  • The real 'Saving Pte. Lynch' – Again, one of many stories discussing the strange fabricated media event that was the “commando rescue” of now amnesic Jessica Lynch.
  • U.S. General May Censor Iraqi TV Station's Programs – Remember, freedom isn't a right. It's a privledge. Abuse freedom of speech by saying things you shouldn't and that freedom will be rescinded.
  • The two faces of Rumsfeld – Three years ago Rumsfeld landed a $200 million contract selling nukes to North Korea. Now he calls them the axis of evil… I guess it all depends on who's paying him the money at the time. Patriotism as loyalty to the highest bidder?
  • Diplomats on the Defensive – Direct quote from the US State Dept: There's been a military coup. Um… That's kind of freaky, isn't it?
  • Halliburton job bigger than thought – The contract awarded to Cheney's Halliburton corporation, awared without counter bids, may top $7 billion and would give them total control of all Iraqi oil assets!
  • Halliburton linked to deals with 'axis of evil' – Money talks, right? After all, someone with that much money could never be a bad man, right?
  • No evidence of plan to use banned weapons in war – The US army says that while Iraq might have had a program in the past, there is no evidence that they had any preparations to use WMDs of any kind.

Wow Shannon, that's really annoying! What is it, 1997 on Geocities? Retroweb is NOT cool!
