At the post office

So I was at the post office mailing two packages; one for Samppa who must be bored silly in Finnish prison, and one for Ryoichi in Japan, the final documents needed to complete the Japanese edition of the ModCon book. (And check out what it cost me to mail them, ack!)

Anyway, I thought I was going to have to fill out lots of forms since that's what Ryan's had to do when sending stuff to the US lately, but for international it turns out you don't have to. I asked them if they were planning on switching international shipping to the new courier-esque service as well since that means tracking numbers, but they said no.

I was told the reason that the Post Office here switched shipping methods is because post-911, the US no longer allows Canadian mail to be sent on planes that also carry passengers, so it voided most of their shipping contracts. It addition, it requires specific labelling and tacking… They've had to contract out shipping to the US to private courier companies.

At least that's what they told me at the post office… I did some searching online but I haven't had any luck confirming this.

Oh, and since no one figured it out, the weird piercing picture in the entry below shows the piercing half done. The needle is through and Tom is probably grabbing the barbell. The “hook” is a separate piece of wire that we were using to pull the lip out of the way without having to have another hand in the way.

Wow Shannon, that's really annoying! What is it, 1997 on Geocities? Retroweb is NOT cool!
