Being an American today must be like living in a sci-fi movie. Seriously, what is it like when you've been told your whole life that you come from not only the most powerful nation in the world, but the nation responsible for all concepts of freedom, democracy, and most of all, good, in the good/evil sense of the world, and then one day you wake up and realize that you are fact playing on Team Evil 666? That you are no child of light, but are in fact by proxy responsible for more suffering than any nation in the history of the planet has caused?
Even Nelson Mandela is saying — in the mainstream American press no less — that “If you look at [US foreign policy and action] you will come to the conclusion that the attitude of the United States of America is a threat to world peace.” While the Bush administration boasts that war in Iraq is “just the first step” in their plans for novus ordo seclorum. Essentially every nation at this point with the exception of Israel agrees, and it's not as if the Israelis are hiding their racist and genocidal agenda very well lately.
It's getting hotter too — the Saudis have just banned Western oil firms from having access to their natural gas fields.

Oh, and to everyone who's writing me to tell me that it's crass to comment on 9/11 related issues so near to the anniversary: I say it is crass NOT to comment. 9/11 did not need to happen. Those people did not need to die. The follow-up to 9/11 did not need to happen. Those people did not need to die either.
It is extremely important that we force ourselves to think critically about the events, even if it might hurt a little. It is a fact that the attacks happened because of US foreign policy, and in general US corporate foreign policy. It is a strong liklihood that the government took an active role in the attacks. It is a fact that the attacks were attacks specifically on white corporate America (even if others were killed as well, this was an attack on white America). It is a fact that without addressing these issues, more attacks will follow, no matter what precautions are put into place.
Unpleasant to hear? Yes.
True? Yes.
Necessary to say and hear? Definitely.
