I’m not sure what you are using for a heat source, but in the casting class here we melt it with and oxygen-acetylene torch with a rosebud tip.
Depending on how bright you want the orange, though, you may have the right idea to go with plastic. (I’ve been told plastic jewelry is “in” right now)
