His first year, things will probably get worse, no matter what. How quick things come back will be a big factor in whether democrats hold congress in 2010 and whether he gets re-elected in 2012.

Of course republican presidential candidate sarah palin may not have much chance in 2012, in any case (or 2010, if you use her knowledge of government).
